Male grooming

  • Seen the Intouchables yet? What did you think, with or without the mustache?

The Intouchables the horseshoe mustache The intouchables man beard facial hair friendship

You’d have to have been sleeping under a rock recently not to have noticed the buzz around the French film The Intouchables, a comedy about the unlikely friendship that forms between Philippe, a frustrated wealthy disabled guy and Driss, his lively young caretaker.

What we loved about the film is that it’s all about trying something different, trying something new. Philippe employs Driss because he’s sick of being patronised in his life and wanted “no pity”. The Intouchables is a great example to men of how changing things up a bit in your approach to life can make life a hell of a lot more interesting. The way we see it is that this doesn’t have to be something radical like paragliding or racing off from the police in a Maserati as the fellas in the film do (we wouldn’t recommend trying the latter unless you love prison food).

  • A little animal magnetism

It’s often said that dogs look like their owners. It’s scientifically proven, in fact, that when shown a photo of the owner members of the public could predict which breed of dog they owned twice as accurately as they should be able to.

Whether your Adrien Brody-esque nose resembles a Doberman or you’ve got a mop of curly Poodle-hair, the fact of the matter is that humans are predisposed to “anthropomorphism”, which is attribution of human characteristics or features to animals.

  • The body hair debate grows on

    Male chest_half shaved

Male body hair is a tricky topic. Some women may like their men particularly hairy all over (so do check personal preferences before taking drastic action), however, and I feel I am speaking for the majority of my gender when I say, that most women like it at a minimum. We’ve already discussed why women love a clean shaven man, so let's start moving south.

    We go through a lot!

Smooth, hair-free skin is a lot of hard work guys. Our beauty routine is timely and sometimes a bit painful.

  • A celebration of hair - here, there and everywhere

Growing up eh? One minute you’re a tiny terror riding around town on a cool trike mowing down strangers’ feet, and the next minute you’re standing in front of the mirror wondering how the heck you got so hairy. But body hair shouldn’t be something for men to be embarrassed about, it should be celebrated! Our body hair is one of the few features that connects us to our animalistic past, a time when we were free to be hairy and to run around hunting and howling at the moon.

Here’s a celebration of male hair that grows everywhere.

Lionel Messi, perhaps the greatest footballer of his generation, did something pretty remarkable in March, he became Barcelona’s all time leading goal scorer at the age of just 24. To put that in perspective, the former leading top goalscorer Cesar Rodriguez took 13 years to score his 232 goals at Barca, Messi broke his record in only 8.

Some people say it’s Lionel Messi’s out-of-this-world ball control that’s behind his success, some say it’s his surprising speed on the ball, but we think it could be something completely different. We think Messi’s success comes from…his hair.

  • The new modern man

There’s a new bro-cabulary word that’s been making global news this year and it’s called “brotox”. Yes, it’s exactly what you think – Botox for men. The US news show Good Morning America launched the buzz during a segment where men volunteered to get injections and reported that overall, they were really happy with the results.

This whole thing really got me thinking…are men becoming too image conscious or are we just stepping up our game?
