How to Trim a Stiletto Beard
The Stiletto Beard is a truly distinctive style – originating from foreign aristocracy in England in the 15th century. With its defined angles and pointed chin, you’ll need to shape and control your beard to achieve the stiletto beard style. The stiletto beard style involves narrowing your chin hair to a point in the centre. It creates a bit of a V shape underneath your jaw. This means you need to put in the time to shape the sides shorter to maintain the stiletto design. Not to mention you need a full beard to begin with. Similar popular beard styles include the anchor beard, the Balbo beard, the Verdi beard, the Van Dyke beard, the Fu Manchu, the duck tail beard, circle beards, and goatee style beards. None are quite the same as the Stiletto beard though. The French forks or French fork beard is very similar, but it has two prominent points instead of just one.
Step 1: Grow Out Your Beard
The first thing you need to do is to grow out your beard. Regularly brush your beard, from root to tip. This will help draw the natural beard oils down the hairs while stimulating the hair follicles to encourage beard growth. Consistent beard care will help. Keep it clean with beard shampoo and apply appropriate beard oils to keep it healthy. Overall, it will likely take three months for a decent-sized beard to grow.
Step 2: Shape the Upper Line Use a precision beard trimmer on your beard to shape your cheek line. Go as far down your cheek as you like, no more than 5cm higher than your jawline. Step 3: Shape the Body Using the main trimmer, shape the beard so that the longest point is in the very centre, under your chin. Anchor the lines by following the shape of your jaw and using the corners of your mouth as reference points—directly under each one should be the same length of hair. Don’t go too short when trimming your facial hair or you could end up with a chin strap or chin curtain beard by accident.
Step 4: Get a cleanly shaven face A little bit of stubble isn’t the worst thing, but to make your stiletto beard pops, a clean-shaven face is essential. Put the beard trimmer away and use a rotary razor with gentle, circular motions or a safety razor and use light, gentle strokes. Shave your face and neck, removing any traces of a neck beard. A good marker to use is your Adam’s apple—there shouldn’t be any hair lower than that. Light stubble will come back, and you can leave it if you like, but if you like a crisp beard, moustache, and sideburns, you’ll want to shave the rest regularly.
Step 5: Style your Beard Now it’s time to create the best beard style. Using some beard wax, you can enhance the point of your beard. You can also use some moustache wax to shape the moustache for a more handlebar moustache or walrus moustache. You can tidy the hair under your lower lip if you like to create a more interesting shape of soul patch or goatee and moustache, but it’s not essential.
Look after your beard with grooming regime to keep it always looking slick. Beard styles may come in and out of fashion, but a classic look like the stiletto will never go out of style. Remember to watch your beard neckline so it doesn’t lean into neckbeard territory and keep that chin puff of hair a crisp V shape. Trim your beard, moustache, and sideburns as often as needed and maintain the clean cheek line and beard neckline to keep the perfect beard shape.
