Wait to invest until they redesign
I love my Sonicare toothbrush with UV sanitizer. I was hoping to love the Airflosser, but was really disappointed. I will admit that I dislike flossing in general and was hoping to never have to floss again because of the Airflosser, but the Airflosser was not even close to living up to this expectation. You can read below for all of the design issues, but what is most frustrating for me is that these issues are obvious if they had done any “testing” of the product before releasing it. From the first time you go to plug it in you notice that the Airflosser does not sit properly on its charger, and therefore does not charge properly. Then when trying to use the Airflosser, if you don’t have it positioned just right it won’t shoot the air “mist” between your teeth properly, especially molars and teeth with tight spaces. As you are trying to reposition the Airflosser to actually “floss” between your teeth you are constantly trying to press the button on top that sticks, as water is running down your arm because the unit leaks from the water tank and from the top piece, AND it runs out of water while you are doing this AND it runs low on its charge because it does not sit on the charger correctly – SUPER FRUSTRATING!! I would wait to see if Philips takes feedback on this product and comes out with the next version before you buy.

Very disappointing product
I have used Sonicare toothbrushes for years. My husband is a dentist and he rates Sonicare brushes as the best. However the Airfloss is a huge disappointment.
I replaced my daily use of regular floss with the Airfloss and within a month I had plaque and tartar with visible staining.
That's the biggest problem. It's not a bad addition to your daily oral care routine but it DEFINITELY DOES NOT WORK as a replacement to traditional floss or interdental brushing and Philips are wrong to sell it as such.
The other problem is that the product has many design faults:
1. It's uncomfortable to hold
2. The water tank is in an awkward position for filling under a tap
3. The water tank is too small (needs refilling 2-3 times per use)
4. The water tank's cover doesn't close securely and often pops open spilling the contents all down your arm
5. The trigger is in an awkward position and if you don't release it completely you can't press it again
6. The shape of the device is odd so it doesn't stay upright easily and needs to either rest in a tumbler or be on its charger all the time which is inconvenient and takes up space
7. The nozzle does not fit flush to the device and occasionally water squirts from around the connection point
8. The nozzle is hard to fit and remove
9. The nozzle is too rigid making reaching round the arches difficult
10. The head is too thick and too rigid so sometimes it's hard to aim it in the right place.
Sorry but this product is a big fail for Sonicare / Philips and I for one am incredibly disappointed. It feels like they had a great idea which they then rushed to get to market without proper research and testing.
As such, we will not be recommending it to patients at our practice.

Unique product from a great company
I have been a Sonicare user for many years and it is tremendously helpful in making dental cleaning appointments rather effortless. It has kept my teeth in great shape. When I heard the same company had introduced dental flossing machine, I was eager to try it out, so I purchased one and started to use it. I have only been using it for a couple of weeks, but these are my first impressions.
First, it really blasts the air and water or mouthwash. It makes kind of a big noise and it is somewhat jarring. In other words, it takes some getting used to. I thought my gums were in pretty good shape, but there are some places that are somewhat uncomfortable to have blasted. I'm hoping that frequent use of the machine will eventually alleviate this problem, but so far it is just uncomfortable in places.
It's a personal reaction, but I don't like the noise the machine makes when it operates.
On the plus side, It is easy to fill with mouthwash or water, and the amount seems to be enough to do all the spaces between my teeth. It is easy to rinse out and dry between uses.
The charger/stand is somewhat different from the other Sonicare products I am used to -- and I have owned at least a half dozen Sonicare machines over the years. This one takes some getting used to.
Because I think it can lead to better gum health, I am willing to keep working with it. But I would like to see some study results that show it is worth it.

This product served me well for almost 5 years
This product was used daily for nearly five years, and gave good service. Eventually there were problems with switching it on - the button was pressed but no light came on. This was overcome by connecting and switching on the charger momentarily - the light on the product then came on - but after a further period (about three months) this did not happen, so a replacement product (Model HX8212/02) was purchased. Also problems after prolonged use with the nozzle not being a tight fit in the handle, so loss of spray pressure.

Good product that will only get better
The current product works but the design needs to be improved. The back of the airfloss should be flat so it can be placed on a counter to be filled...right now you have to hold it with one hand and pour in mouthwash using the other hand.
The button that activates a flow from the airfloss also ceases to work quite often. In order to make it compress and activate a flow once it has locked in place, I have to remove the nozzle and press the activation button several times so that the button will work again.

Have used these flossers for years and like them very much. I floss first and then air floss and my dentist likes the results. However, their reliability is questionable. Have often had to replace them, usually just after the warranty ends. Fortunately they are not terribly expensive but still quality should be improved.

More fun than flossing and appears more effective
I purchased this at my dentist's recommendation. I have long suffered from too deep pockets at my gum lines. In addition, my teeth are close together, which makes it difficult to floss without getting the floss stuck in my teeth. This takes just a minute and the long neck on the appliance makes it super easy to get to back teeth and gum areas.
I chose to use a pre-brushing rinse with whitener with my flosser. At first attempts, the blast caused my gums to bleed slightly, which highlights their fragile nature. After the 4th day, the gums quit bleeding, which means they are toughening up and I may not have this ongoing issue next time I get my teeth cleaned. I was surprised at how effective the blast is in knocking particles out from between the teeth. My mouth feels fresh and the gums look healthier. Only my next dental visit will tell how effective it really is.
If there were any flaw to the flosser, it is the design of the liquid depository, making it not as easy to fill as I would like, but it is a small annoyance. And if it really bothered me, I would just go with the air blast.
Overall, I am pleased with the AirFloss. I purchased them for my young-adult children who take more time with this than they did with regular flossing, and look forward to better check-ups from them, too!
