If your Philips Avent electric breast pump does not turn on, does not charge, turns off by itself, only works when connected to a power source (battery version), or displays "Er" and then turns off, please follow the troubleshooting steps below.
This article applies to Philips Avent traditional electric breast pumps (single and double electric models). It does not apply to the wearable or hands-free breast pumps.
Before you start
Identify the motor unit of your breast pump:
White motor unit (1)
This breast pump has a rechargeable battery and can be used on battery power or while connected to a power source.
Pink motor unit (2)
This breast pump must remain connected to a power source during use.
Always use the original Philips Avent power adapter and charging cable supplied with your pump. Power and charging issues are often caused by incorrect or damaged charging accessories.
Make sure that:
You use the original Philips Avent adapter and charging cable
The cable is securely connected
The adapter is plugged into a working power outlet
The cable is not damaged
If you are using an older adapter version, contact Philips Consumer Care Center to check if a (free) replacement is available.
Sometimes the issue is caused by the power source rather than the pump itself.
Try the following:
Unplug the adapter
Plug it into a different power outlet
Check whether the pump starts charging
If possible, test the same power outlet with another device.
If your white motor unit turns on but powers off quickly, the battery may be low.
Try the following:
Connect the pump using the original Philips Avent adapter
Charge the battery for up to 4 hours
Use the pump again
A fully charged battery typically provides up to three pumping sessions. This equals approximately 90 minutes of single pumping or 45 minutes of double pumping.
Battery performance naturally decreases over time with normal use.
Helpful to know:
Your pump has a built-in feature that turns it off automatically 30 minutes after the last button is pressed on the motor unit.
If your battery is low and you need to express milk, plug your pump into a power outlet or other power source and use it while plugged in. Your pump will not charge while you are pumping.
Your pump may not charge or operate correctly if it becomes too hot or too cold.
If the pump has been left in a car, stored in a very hot or cold environment, or has been exposed to direct sunlight, move it to room temperature and allow it to rest for approximately 30 minutes before charging or using it again.
If your pump displays the error message "Er" and turns off:
Allow the motor unit to cool down for approximately 30 minutes
Make sure that you are using the original Philips Avent adapter and charging cable
Allow the pump to return to room temperature if it has been stored in a very hot or cold environment
Then try using the pump again.
If your pump still does not turn on:
Disconnect the pump from the charger
Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds
Release the button
If the reset is successful, the pump will restart.
