Pleasantly Surprised
I have read some other reviews that say the BR-1X is too bassy. That's like saying your car is too fuel efficient or that your shoes are too comfortable - for a tiny speaker to have a decent bass response is a blessing, not a curse. Yes, when used on 'indoor' mode, the low end is certainly prominent - it does get quite punchy and boomy, but the bass is never too much. To my ears, it gives a pleasing weight to the sound which is sorely lacking in some other speakers of a similar size. The 'outdoor' setting significantly cuts the bass output and accentuates the mid-to-high end to noticeably bring up the volume. It's good to have the option and I don't know of any other speakers that do. As far as those who believe the BR-1X has too much bass, the 'outdoor' mode basically removes it all. At full volume in either setting, I heard only one instance of clipping. It was only on one track, and only during one small part of the song, and only every second beat when a particular kick drum was played. Nothing else has caused any distortion or clipping which can't be said of some competitors' units I've heard which can sometimes distort at higher volumes (and quite badly). The higher frequencies are reproduced well enough and although this is not an audiophile-quality speaker, the overall sound is something you won't catch yourself thinking about - it's really easy to enjoy the sound out of the BR-1X. It was never harsh or irritating. Instead, it had a well-rounded quality. It is quite chunky but not so big that you can't throw it in a backpack and still have room for your usual stuff. I would be very happy to lug it around outside and know that it will survive a fall so it would be great for active people or teenagers who have butterfingers. The casing feels like silicone or rubber and all the buttons are slightly recessed so that if the BR-1X went for a tumble it would be fine. The two 2-inch speakers are behind steel grilles, as is the passive bass radiator on the back. It has a standard ¼" tripod mount on the bottom should you wish to prop it up, but with the rubber cover, it will stay firmly in place on a hard surface. The bass radiator does a great job of adding just enough rumble to not make it sound like a small portable speaker and if it weren't for the rubber case, I imagine it could move around on hard surfaces. I go on a lot about the bass response. Let me be clear - this is no match for a full-sized (non-portable) speaker system, and it is not going to compete with a Bose Soundlink III, Denon Envaya, or JBL Charge 2+ but it is certainly enough to give you some worthwhile low end. For the size, the bass output of the BR-1X is much better than I expected. In general, the output is pleasing and seems to maintain a decent stereo sound field when you are seated directly in front of the unit. The high end carries well so if the BR-1X is playing in my bedroom, I can hear it from the other side of the house. It is actually quite loud - especially for its small size. I didn't think it was particularly loud until I realised I could hear it quite clearly from other rooms. It's definitely enough to comfortably fill a living room. Suffice to say, It sounds considerably bigger than it looks. At 6 hours the rated battery time isn't great compared to most current speakers that seem to be at least 8 but I had it going for close to 5 hours last night at high volume and the low battery warning didn't come on. My guess is that on medium volume it will easily exceed 6 hours (and medium volume is quite loud). It can be charged from the included power adapter or via a standard micro-USB cable which means if you have a battery pack for charging your phone or tablet then you can use that to get a lot more than 6 hours of playtime. In brief, the BR-1X is a fantastic little soundbox that will take a few knocks, is more than loud and clear enough for around-the-house or out in the garden, and is a really great tag-along speaker for laptop users.

wireless speaker frequently turns off (power)
I received this as a gift 2 years ago in December (birthday present). Have used it on and off over the last two years. Over the last couple of weeks, it has been switching off unexpectedly (while It is connected to power). Occurring every 30-40 min. I would appreciate advice to troubleshoot and resolve.

Mixed Feelings
These speakers have great bass (got a small sub in it it)! However when trying to listen to songs without much bass it latches onto other things and the low frequencies of that song becomes distorted. If you just listen to electronic music its great, singer/songwriter, pop and other genres the vocals are clear but the instruments sound distorted because of the bass which only has 2 options, inside and out, if their was someway to limit the bass it would be great!
