Why does my floor look striped after using my Philips OneUp electric mop?

    Published on 12 May 2026

Striping can occur because your Philips OneUp electric mop cleans more thoroughly than many traditional mops. It lifts and removes built-up dirt, grease and residue that may have been left behind by previous cleaning products. When that hidden dirt is removed for the first time, it can temporarily make cleaning patterns more visible.

For better results, mop the floor in multiple directions instead of only in straight lines (e.g. left to right, then front to back). This helps ensure that all areas are evenly cleaned

For the first few uses, if striping occurs, we recommend using little to no detergent. Because your Philips OneUp electric mop is very effective at removing residue, too much detergent can leave product build-up on the floor, which may contribute to striping. Once your floor is fully clean and free of old detergent residue, you can resume using our recommended detergent with regular dosing. Press the dosing button only once for the correct amount of detergent. If you've used too much detergent, empty the tank, rinse it under the tap and refill it with clean water.
