HD Media player

This product has so many feature despite it's small size

had it for yeeaars playin all types of files. Started to have some issues with newer type of files like mp4 no sound could not find any upgrades for this particular one. http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/cpindex.pl?ctn=HMP4000/93&hlt=Link_Overview&scy=AT&slg=AEN downloaded that onto a usb and booooom. good as new.

I have the HMP3000 model and that works brilliantly, used same hard drive with the new HMP4000 and it will only play some of the movie files, not happy...I have searched here for upgrade firmware/software none to be found...why will it not read all movies as per my earlier model, ready to take back for refund

The device has trouble reading a number of AVI's. I am unsure of the codecs used to encode the sound and video, but the movies were encoded by myself a few years ago using a retail divx encoder. Overall I am a little disappointed with the device as "out of the box" it doesn't play everything. I will be searching for a firmware update after posting this review.

Where can I get a new remote control if the one is no function. Because this device only able use only with remote controls.

Good, great even, but one major issue. Will not work without a remote. Will not even turn on without a remote. And what's the first thing to go missing in a normal home? So I can't recommend it. Sorry. If it only you could turn it on without a remote control, like you can with the other 99.9% of media players, televisions, cd players etc. Yes, you could get a universal remote. But still, you shouldn't have to. Our tv works independantly of a remote. So does our cd player, dvd player, new media player... This one little thing lets the player down.
