How to Shave Your Pubes: Pubic Hair Removal Guide

    Reading time: 2 mins

Do you like it finely trimmed or completely hairless? In your everyday life or just for the bikini season and spa visits? Whatever your preferences, the hair removal in the intimate area is a task where you should pay special attention.

And since one can sometimes not see the wood for the trees, we explain here various methods of pubic hair removal from shaving and intimate waxing to the so-called permanent hair removal in the intimate area so that you can easily remove hair from your bikini area – safely and effectively.

    What is IPL

    The Traditional Method: Shaving

In the Australia, shaving has tradition: it is by far the most popular method for removing hair from the intimate area and armpits. It’s quick, easy and affordable. While manual razors can cause skin irritation and even cuts, there are electric shavers specifically designed for removing hair from your bikini zone.

    This is how you shave:
    1. You should first trim long hair so you can see better where you shave.

    2. Always shave or trim in the direction of hair growth to avoid irritation.

    The Thorough Method: Epilation

If you want to try removing the hair with an epilator, you can enjoy two to three weeks of smooth skin. That’s because epilating removes the hairs with their roots.

    This is how you epilate:

    1. Firstly, trim longer hairs.

    2. Exfoliate the area. With the Philips Satinelle Prestige you can use the exfoliator attachment.

    3. Then use an epilator such the Satinelle Prestige which has a Skin Stretcher that stretches your skin automatically. Thanks to its clever opti-light function, you can detect hairs even in tricky areas. It’s imperative that you use the attachment for sensitive body parts to avoid skin irritation.

    The Method for Toughies: Waxing

With waxing, too, the hairs are being removed with the roots. As they are pulled from the root, it is definitely the most painful method of intimate hair removal.

This is how you do your intimate waxing:

Use hard wax to wax your bikini zone. It is suitable for coarse hair and protects the skin.

    1. Trim your pubic hair to approximately six millimetres.

    2. Heat the wax and apply some of it on the inside of your wrist. This way you can make sure that it isn’t too hot.

    3. Then follow the instructions on the packaging to wax your bikini zone. Remember to pull your skin tight while pulling it off to reduce pain.

The Risky Method: Hair Removal Cream

It actually sounds like a practical solution to depilate the intimate area: Simply apply the depilation cream and remove it after a few minutes. Unfortunately it’s not that easy. Because the creams contain chemicals that attack your sensitive skin and can damage the pH balance, So you should make sure that the cream doesn’t come into contact with your private parts.

This is how you remove hair with a cream:

Read the instructions on the packaging carefully before depilating the intimate area.

    1. Test the product on a small part in your bikini area before applying it on a larger area. Wait 24 hours until you can be sure that there aren’t any adverse reactions.

    2. Now you can apply the cream to the outer areas and remove it as per instruction.

    3. If you are unsure how far you can use it, only depilate the safe areas and use a different depilation method on the remaining, more sensitive areas.

    The Long-Lasting Method: IPL

IPL is a long-lasting depilation for the intimate area (and all other body parts). In fact, a regular treatment makes for a significant reduction in hair growth which means you can achieve a long-lasting depilation of the intimate area.

This is how you depilate with IPL:

With an IPL device such as the Philips Lumea Prestige the treatment at home is very easy – just make sure you read the manual before the treatment and never use it on sensitive areas such as on the inner labia, the vagina or the anus.

    1. Get started by shaving, epilating or waxing the body area before treatment.

    2. Select the setting based on your skin tone with the SmartSkin sensor.

    3. Press the precision attachment treatment window on your skin in a 90 degree angle. Wait for the ready to flash light and press the flash button.

    4. Slowly slide Lumea across the treatment area while flashing. Avoid flashing the same spot twice.
