How to Maintain a Stubble Beard

1.5 min read – 01:34 video
Nothing says “I didn’t sleep at home” like a stubble beard. From Clint Eastwood to George Clooney, Hollywood has turned stubble from an everyday guy’s everyday struggle into the epitome of sexy, stylish cool.

Heavy stubble, or a 5 o’clock shadow, separates the men from the boys. Grooming and maintaining a stubble beard can highlight cheekbones on a square face or disguise a weak chin on the less-chiseled.

How to Maintain a Stubble Beard in 4 Steps

What you will need:

  • Water
  • Beard Trimmer
  • Electric Shaver

Here’s how to create and maintain your own sexy stubble beard in just four easy steps:

1. Growing stubble out

Avoid shaving your beard for several days to let your natural beard begin to grow to at least 3 cm. For a few extra tips on growing a beard, read our guide for quicker hair stimulation.

2. Trim your beard neckline

Carefully trim to create a line under your chin. Keep your neck nice and tidy below the line. Trim the area of your beard beneath your cheekbones, carefully forming a downward oval shape. You can also draw a straight diagonal line from the beginning of your sideburn to the edge of your moustache. Then tidy up the area below your mouth. 3. Create your stubble beard.

Set your stubble trimmer between 1 and 3 cm and trim the rest of your natural beard evenly. To find the length that suits you best, start with a longer setting, moving down to a shorter setting to find the ideal stopping point. Once you are there, tidy up under your chin with an electric shaver. Clean the edges and corners with a razor if you want a really clean and sharp look.

4. Maintain your stubble beard.

As quick as it was to learn this guide on how to maintain stubble, is as quick as your beard is to grow back. Before you know it, your stubble beard style will become a natural looking beard or scruffy beard if you leave it too long being trimming again. Trim and shave regularly to maintain your stubble beard at a preferred length and keep the edges of your stubble beard neat for the ultimate look.

That’s it: you’ve mastered the stubble beard style, for a carelessly-cool look. Similar to the 5 o’clock shadow beard, this beard care regime is tough and will need a lot of maintenance to stay looking at it’s best. Wear it with confidence.

When you’re ready to move on, remember that stubble is also an excellent gateway style for bolder beards. Consider growing it out to get the balbo beard.
