Information for patients and caregivers who have received a BiPAP A40 Pro as a replacement for your current A-Series BiPAP A30 or BiPAP A40 device

This page relates to your replacement BiPAP A40 Pro device.


This will replace your current A-Series BiPAP A30 or BiPAP A40 device. The device shown may vary in appearance to your device.

If you have a different device or you are not sure what device you have, please contact Philips.

This is not intended to replace your user manual. Please refer to your user manual or contact your health care provider should you have any questions about your device or treatment.

Philips has set your device settings based on the therapy settings provided to us. Upon using your device, if you feel your therapy settings are different, please contact Philips.


For patients with a current BiPAP A40 device you will receive a a Detachable Battery Module. Please use your current battery using this battery module provided with your replacement device. If you do not have or use a battery, and therefore do not require the battery module, please disregard it. For more information on the battery module, please refer to the instructions included with your Detachable Battery Module or click here.

Please keep the following device components and accessories from your current device, you may need them to setup your replacement device (if applicable).


Please follow the “Accessory Cleaning and Inspection Instructions” provided and if you notice any black foam particles, please contact Philips.

Disassemble your current device

 
  • Disconnect the power cord, tubing and mask. 
  • Disconnect humidifier (if applicable), ensuring the water chamber is empty. Pull the release latch on the bottom of the humidifier and gently pull the two components apart.
  • Disconnect battery module (if applicable). Pull the release latch on the bottom of the battery module and gently pull the two components apart. Remove your current battery from the current battery module to use in your replacement battery module (if applicable).
  • Disconnect modem and remove SD card (if applicable).
  • Please follow the “Accessory Cleaning and Inspection Instructions” provided and if you notice any black foam particles, please contact Philips.

Note: Keep your current SD card. Your replacement device comes with a SD card installed.

Assemble your replacement device

 

  • Remove the User Manuals and replacement BiPAP A40 Pro device with Humidifier from the box. If humidification is needed for an invasive circuit, connect an invasive humidifier or Heat Moisture Exchange filter (HME).
  • Insert your modem (if applicable).
  • Slide the battery module and replacement device together until they snap into place, first removing the side panel using the release tab (if applicable). Then, insert your current battery from your old battery module into the replacement battery module (if applicable).
  • Add supplementary oxygen by inserting the oxygen inlet port provided (if applicable).
  • Connect your current and cleaned mask and tubing (or your new tubing provided) to the replacement device.
  • Connect power cord to the replacement device and wall electrical outlet.
  • Turn on the replacement device and ensure proper operation.

  • Please refer to the User Manual for more detailed information about the device and operation, including cleaning and adjusting your patient settings. Images may vary.
  • Your device is now ready to use.

Return Instructions for your old device

Return your old device to Philips

  • It is very important for Philips to work with our patients to ensure the return of affected devices under our Urgent Product Defect Correction in Australia and Recall for Product Correction in New Zealand. More information in relation to the correction is on the Philips website at www.philips.com/src-update.
  • The return shipment for your old device is pre-paid, so there is no charge to you.
  • If you are in New Zealand, click on this link for details on how to return your old device to Philips.


If you are in Australia, please follow the Australia Post return process to return your old device to Philips: 

  • Go to: www.return.auspost.com.au/Philips.
  • Input the serial number of your old device as the reference number and your email address.
  • Then input your personal details, including your address. Review and accept the terms and conditions. You can choose to print your own label or print in store.
  • Take your old device and your confirmation email from Australia Post to your nearest Australia Post location.
  • At the post office, Australia Post will provide you with packaging for your old device to be placed in.
  • Once you have packaged your old device, provide it to Australia Post for return to Philips.

Do not return your carry bag, mask, tubing, power supply and cord, humidifier, battery, modem or SD card (if applicable).

Cleaning your BiPAP A40 Pro

Before resuming therapy on your replacement machine, visually inspect the following accessories for evidence of black foam particles:

 

  • Tubing 
  • Mask components (mask, cushions, and integrated tubing)
  • Humidifier tank and seals (if applicable)  

 

If there is no evidence of black foam particles on any of these components:

  • Clean each component per their respective instructions for use.
  • Reassemble and resume therapy on your new device.

 

If visible black foam particles are evident on any of these components: 

  • Contact your equipment provider for replacement (prior to restarting therapy).
  • Keep components for verification by the Homecare Provider.

 

Please follow these “Accessory Cleaning and Inspection Instructions” provided and if you notice any black foam particles, please contact Philips on the number below.

Before you begin cleaning:

Unplug your device before cleaning

Do not submerge device in water

Always use distilled water in your humidifier tank

Daily

Humidifier:

  • Let the humidifier cool down before removing the water tank.
  • Remove water tank from device and empty contents.
  • Submerge water tank in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly. Completely air dry.
  • Refill the humidifier with distilled water to avoid mineral deposit build-up.

Weekly

Machine:

  • Wipe down the outside of the machine with a dampened cloth with mild liquid dishwashing detergent and water, weekly.

 

Tubing:

  • Disconnect the tubing from the device and mask.
  • Hand wash in mild liquid dishwashing detergent and warm water, weekly. Rinse thoroughly. Completely air dry before reconnecting.

Monthly

Disposable filter:

  • Replace the light-blue ultra-fine disposable filter after 30 nights of use. Do not rinse.

 

Reusable filter:

  • Rinse monthly and replace every 6 months.
  • Rinse the grey reusable filter monthly and allow to dry completely before reinserting into the device.

 

Tubing:

  • Replace every 6 months.
