HDMI stands for High Definition Multimedia Interface. It is a direct digital connection that can carry digital HD video as well as digital multichannel audio. By eliminating the conversion to analog signals it delivers perfect picture and sound quality, completely free from noise. HDMI is fully backward-compatible with DVI (Digital Video Interface).
Picture in Picture (PIP) lets you view video from a second program at the same time. This is usually in a small window at selected locations within a full-screen display. PIP allows viewing an on-going TV broadcast in a sub-picture while watching another TV program or a recorded program from the hard disk. Additionally, the feature becomes useful for the display of 'multiview' video from some digital program sources.
Digital 5.1 channel audio recording lets you capture – along with the video – the original sound from digital multi-channel sources such as satellite receivers to store it on DVD. These recordings can then be played back in multi-channel only on your Philips Recorder or in Stereo on any DVD player.
Pause Live TV puts you in absolute control. Once the recorder is turned on, a large built-in memory automatically starts recording the program you are watching -- allowing you to pause, replay or save the program, anytime. If you need to take a break, you can pause your 'live' TV program with just one touch of a button, and resume watching when it suits you.
Two integrated DVB-T tuners let you receive Digital Terrestrial TV and record two programs in HD simultaneously, or watch one while you record the other. The HD tuners are able to decode three high definition picture formats (576p, 720p and 1080i). The video signal is kept digital without any analog steps in between, to preserve high picture and sound quality, multiple views of some sporting events and other services such as program guides.
