The drip tray of my Philips/Saeco espresso fills up fast

It is normal for your Philips/Saeco espresso machine's drip tray to fill up with water. Continue reading to find out why and discover tips and tricks.

Why is there always some water in the drip tray?

It is quite normal for the drip tray to fill up quickly and this does not mean that the machine is functioning incorrectly.
How quickly the drip tray fills up is also influenced by the frequency of usage of the machine.

During use, water ends up in the drip tray in a variety of ways and for different reasons:

  • During the automatic rinsing cycle of the machine, some water drips directly into the drip tray and the other part runs through the coffee dispensing spout.
  • After brewing a beverage, a small amount of rinse water from the brew group drips directly into the drip tray.
  • When milk is frothed, there will be slightly more rinse water as more steam is produced.

Tip: To reduce the amount of rinse water that ends up in the drip tray during the automatic rinsing cycle, you can place a cup under the dispensing spout to collect this water.
