We simplify healthcare by focusing on the people directly involved in the care cycle: patients and care providers. Through combining human insights and clinical expertise, we aim to improve patient outcomes while lowering the burden on the healthcare system. Philips delivers advanced solutions to health professionals, to meet the needs of patients, and to consumers seeking affordable healthcare and empowerment over their own treatment whether in hospital or at home.

Philips Healthcare is one of the world’s top three medical device companies. We aim to improve the quality of people’s lives through developments including imaging systems, customer services, information and monitoring systems. We enjoy a number one position in several of these, including X-ray, cardiovascular ultrasound, patient monitoring and automatic external defibrillators. Our HeartStart Home Defibrillator brings life-saving technology to consumers in their own homes, where the majority of sudden cardiac arrests occur. It’s just one of the many ways we deliver ‘advanced’ technology that is ‘designed around you’ and ‘easy to experience’.

Our product highlights include the 256-slice Brilliance iCT scanner, the Integrated cath lab, Avalon FM 20 & FM 30 fetal monitors, the Ambient Experience MR and CT systems, and Philips Lifeline's personal emergency alert service.

For Philips, improving lives with light goes back to our founding fathers in 1891. As the world’s leader in Lighting, Philips is driving the switch to energy-efficient solutions. With worldwide electrical lighting using 19 per cent of all electricity, the use of energy-efficient lighting will significantly reduce energy consumption around the world and thereby cut harmful CO2 emissions. Philips provides advanced energy-efficient solutions for all segments: road lighting, office & industrial, hospitality and home.

Philips is also a leader in shaping the future with exciting new lighting applications and technologies such as LED technology, which in addition to energy efficiency, provides attractive benefits and endless new ‘never-before-possible’ lighting solutions. Through a huge array of products, and variety in design, intensity, color and effects, we help make life easier and more efficient. From lighting for interiors and offices to Olympic Stadiums and the Eiffel Tower, we beautify people’s homes and public spaces and enhance safety and a sense of well-being. Light can provide heat, purify water, treat disease, increase road safety — even play a role in semiconductor manufacturing — and we’re active in them all.

Some product highlights include Xenon car lighting, CosmoPolis street lighting, and LivingColors ambience lighting.

Design

Philips Design’s 450 professionals share one mission: to create a harmonious relationship between people, objects and the environment, both natural and man-made. Our visionary approach — enriching design with human sciences, user research and a constant, clear ‘people’ focus — allows us to shape technology in a way that answers people’s existing and latent needs.

We help make Philips’ brand promise tangible through solutions that fit naturally into the context of people’s lives in meaningful ways. And in line with this, we play a leading role in many international consortia and public research programs in the fields of Healthcare, Lifestyle and Technology.

Research

Philips Research is the source of many advanced developments in Healthcare, Lifestyle and Technology. Building on 90 years’ experience in industrial research and our world-leading patent position, we’re dedicated to meaningful innovations.

In the healthcare domain, we’re enhancing imaging and monitoring systems, as well as exploring innovative personal healthcare. In lifestyle, we’re helping people see, hear, remember and share content, anywhere and anytime. Our vision focuses on simplicity, making technology an integral — but invisible — part of everyday life.
To make all this possible, we investigate and develop technologies in Integrated Circuit (IC) design, solid-state lighting, network and storage, identification and security standards, displays and power management.

Intellectual Property & Standards

To safeguard an appropriate return on investment made in R&D, Philips places great value on protecting its innovations through intellectual property rights (IPRs). The company currently holds about 80,000 patent rights, 26,000 trademark registrations, 15,000 design registrations, and some 1,600 domain name registrations. All these Philips IPRs are created and managed by Philips Intellectual Property & Standards, which has some 300 IPR professionals located in twenty-five offices around the world.
