Somewhat pleased but not satisfied
I was initially very excited to buy the system. I was replacing a broken one. After unpacking and connecting everything I soon realised that this one has no 'Digital optical in', so that means I can only get true 5.1 surround when I am playing dvd's. Unfortunately I had already bought a digital optical cable to connect with tivo box or sky because I usually buy movies on the tv services. Sound is great for dvd's, you get true 5.1 surround. Picture upscaling is impressive too. When watching HD channels I have to switch off the 2 satelite speakers because I can only get 2 way channel phono in. My assumption that it would at least have coixal in or a digital optical connection as most of the latest home theatre systems was wrong. So in concluding, if you want it only to watch dvd's, its a great purchase. However if its about getting 5.1 surround from other outputs; it doesn't. Perfect for dvd's, not so good for anything else because it doesnt have; hd in, coax in or toslink in.

I purchased this product to replace a much more expensive Denon home cinema sytem which packed up after 5 years. Although the Philips system is more basic with less features, the sound quality is just as good and the picture is better as it has HDMI output with upscaling to 1080p. It is just a shame I couldn't just buy the main unit as I didn't need the speakers. The Denon speakers are less obstrusive although the Philips units sound fine.
Overall good value, especially at the reduced price.
