This DAB AE5430 portable radio product a lemon
I have been disappointed from the day I bought "C" size rechargeable batteries.
firstly they were very difficult to get
Then the charger was difficult to get
then the charge does not last more than a few days.
The costs of batteries nd charger have exceeded the cost of the radio itself! There should be a built-in charger and use AAA batteries.

this product has everything you could want in a digital radio
Excellent sound, ease of operation, portable and great layout of selection buttons and screen. Perfect radio for my purposes. Thoroughly recommend.

An exception to the rule
I am generally a fan of Philips products but in this instance my faith was not justified. Given its price, the quality of this radio does not live up to my expectations on the aesthetic or sonic fronts. I bought this radio "blind" on the assumption that being a Philips, and, priced at the level it is, that it would be well crafted and sound good - nothing could be further from the truth. Despite the appealing pictures it is very, very plasticky in its design and build, and, that lack of quality is reflected in the sound too. No one is expecting a portable radio to sound like a hi-fi but this radio has a thin, tinny sound more appropriate to a cheap label product costing a third the price. Also, close up, it looks cheap and nasty - I am surprised that Philips would "sign off" a product like this as it simply isn't in line with offerings (including many at a lesser price) from other leading radio manufacturers such as Roberts. I don't often say this, but a huge "thumbs down" for this radio - tinny and cheaply built yet quite highly priced.
