Who Will Be Crowned Australia’s Next Community Sports Dad?

Nominations now open for the 2014 Philips Community Sports Dad of the Year Award

Sydney, Australia – For the past six years, the public has had the chance to vote for their favourite celebrity Sports Dad of the Year with retired Sydney Swans star Jude Bolton taking the title in 2013.


Jude and Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) are now proud to announce that nominations are underway for the second annual Philips Community Sports Dad of the Year Award and encouraging your entries.


Whether it's a dad who coaches his local junior team, helps the local sports club with funding or support, or simply plays competitive sport on the weekend, this award is designed to reward the contributions and positive impact that Australian dads make to their families and community both on and off the field.



To nominate your dad, or a dad you know for the Philips Community Sports Dad of the Year (#PSDOTY), visit http://www.sportsdads.com.au/community, complete the online entry form in full and tell us in 100 words or less why your chosen dad should win. Nominations are now open. Entries must be received between Tuesday, 22 July 2014 and close on Sunday, 24 August 2014 at 11:59pm. The winners will be notified before 7 September 2014, Father's Day, by phone or in writing.


The 2014 Philips Community Sports Dad of the Year winner will receive a Philips Father’s Day Grooming Pack (valued at over $1,000 RRP) as well as a $5,000 Rebel Sports voucher. The nominator who entered the winning dad will also receive a Philips Father’s Day Grooming Pack (valued at over $1,000 RRP).*

The winner of the Philips Community Sports Dad of the Year 2013 was Tony Vecellio (OAM), a father of four and President of Randwick Botany Little Athletic Centre in NSW. During his 45 years at the centre, he has trained thousands of children and had the pleasure of seeing many of those children return with their own kids.


His daughter, Jane, said: "My dad has been there for his family through thick and thin but has always treated the club and community like his fifth child. He never misses training - rain, hail or shine, and over the past thirty-five years he has only missed a handful of Saturday morning competition days.”


A fun video contest has also been added this year with a Philips Shaver 9000 (valued at $449.95 RRP) and a $500 Rebel Sports voucher on offer. Philips is looking for 15 second video entries demonstrating a father’s best sporting skill or trick with the best videos judged equally on originality, creativity, theme and overall quality.


Entries for the video contest should be submitted online via http://www.sportsdads.com.au/community between Tuesday, 22 July 2014 and Sunday, 24 August 2014 at 23:59.


Entries may also be uploaded to the Philips Sports Dad of the Year YouTube channel -youtube.com/user/PSDOTYtv. The winner will be notified by phone or in writing before 7 September 2014, Father's Day*.
