Boost Your Oral Health With The New Sonicare Oral Health App

April 8, 2013

Sydney, Australia – Recognising that many Australians are falling short of the ideal when it comes to brushing and flossing, Philips Sonicare has developed a new Australian designed Sonicare App for Android and iPhone, packed with great tools and information for people to improve their oral health.

Recent research conducted by Philips has shown that 40 per cent of Australians brush for less than the recommended minimum of two times per day1, while only one in four people floss on a daily basis2.

Dr. David Dunn from the Macquarie Street Dental Centre in Sydney said "The key to good oral health is brushing and flossing regularly and doing so for the correct amount of time, but statistics indicate that many Australians have let their oral health habits slip."

At the core of the Australian designed Sonicare App are the clever "Brushing Tracker" and "Floss Count" tools, which allow users to keep track of their oral health habits, identify where there is room for improvement, and chart their progress. These tools, combined with a two-minute timer, brush head replacement reminder and dental appointment reminder, are sure to give Australians the motivation needed to achieve better dental health.

"Tools such as those in the Sonicare App are useful in helping people recognise where they need to improve their brushing or flossing by encouraging them to make a lasting change," said Dr. Dunn. "For many Australians, brushing for two minutes and keeping a regular oral health routine, including seeing their dentist and hygienist for regular examination, is going to make a significant difference to the health of their teeth and gums."

Also featured on the app is a unique ‘Experience Sonicare’ function that allows users to interact with the Philips flagship power toothbrush DiamondClean. With the actual handle and modes replicated on the users’ smart phone, people can experience the sights and sounds of sonic technology through the touch of a button on their smart phone.

This new app also contains a wealth of advice on a range of dental health topics, including sensitivity, gum care, and further information about brushing and tooth flossing, making it a useful educational reference for users between dental appointments.
