Philips AVENT’s new mealtime range helps toddlers develop self-feeding skills

April 18, 2012

Sydney, Australia – Philips AVENT, a leader in parenting and baby products, has added new products to its toddler mealtime range. The new additions, including a Bendable Learning Spoon, a Travel Cutlery Set and Travel Feeding Box, help a child progress through weaning to toddler self-feeding.

Easy to use and clean and convenient for travel, not only can the products in the range be sterilised, they are dishwasher-friendly, microwave-safe and BPA-free.

Bendable Learning Spoon
The Bendable Learning Spoon is specially designed for little hands to grip whilst they are learning to self-feed. Designed for children aged six months and beyond, it has a bendable spoon handle and a tip that you can customise according to your child’s grip and developmental needs as they grow.

The spoon features non-slip handles, so that it can easily rest on the bowl without sliding, and a deep scoop spoon.

Travel Cutlery Set
Philips AVENT makes it easy to continue to teach your child self-feeding whilst on-the-go, with a convenient Travel Cutlery Set. Designed for toddlers aged 12 months and up, the spoon and fork set comes with a slim line travel case to keep the cutlery hygienic and your bag clean, while you are out and about. Both the cutlery and the case can be sterilised and cleaned in a dishwasher.

The Travel Cutlery Set also features non-slip handles for an easy grip and to rest on a bowl without sliding, and the deep scoop spoon and fork prevents spills.

 Travel Feeding Box
Take your child’s entire meal on the go in one convenient kit, with the Philips AVENT Travel Feeding Box. This set includes one large sectioned feeding dish, two removable small containers, an integrated weaning spoon and a suction mat to prevent spills. It’s the ideal set to ensure you can always have a prepared meal ready for your child, wherever you are, and continue their self-feeding progress.

All containers in the Travel Feeding Box come with lids to prevent spills in your bag or in the car, and also keep the containers’ contents hygienic. This set is microwave safe, so you can heat up food in the same container. Like all the products in the Philips AVENT Toddler Feeding range, the set can be sterilised and is dishwasher safe.

“Introducing solid food is a time of excitement and experimentation for babies and their parents. Learning the mechanics of taking food from a spoon, chewing and swallowing takes time, lots of practice and a lot of patience!,” said Jane Barry, registered nurse, midwife and child health nurse, baby feeding and wellbeing advisor on behalf of Philips AVENT. “When you start teaching your baby self-feeding, encourage them to explore their food and have some control over their meal times. Giving them a spoon to practice with is a good idea.”

“Teaching children to feed themselves is a key developmental step and it really helps to give them the right tools so that it’s fun, easy and importantly, convenient for parents,” said Belinda Sahlman, Marketing Manager, Mother and Baby Care for Philips Australia. “Philips AVENT’s toddler feeding range was developed following years of research into how young children acquire taste and food preferences. The result is a range that keeps children engaged as they take those important steps from milk, to solids, to self-feeding.”

The products are available now from selected baby stores and pharmacies.
